Vijay Merchant Trophy organised by Board of Control For Cricket in India

Manish Ahuja of class IX Centre Point School, Katol Road was selected in Vidarbha U/16 team to represent Vidarbha in the Vijay Merchant Trophy organised by Board of Control For Cricket in India (BCCI). The tournament was held from 1st Dec’16 to 29th Jan’17. This time they created history by qualifying into the knockouts and by winning the Vijay Merchant Trophy.

Their 1st Match was against Madhya Pradesh. They beat them by an innings and 104 Runs and registered their First win in the tournament. The 2nd Match was a draw but by 1st innings lead Vidarbha won the second match. Even the 3rd Match was a draw but U.P. dominated Vidarbha and took the 1st innings lead and won the match. Vidarbha won the4th Match against Chattisgarh by an innings and 20 runs and qualified for knockouts. In the 5th Match Vidarbha won against Karnataka by taking the First innings lead. In the 6th Match which was quarter finals. They beat Mumbai by 7 run which was a very crucial match for them. In the 7th Match semi finals Vidarbha dominated over West Bengal and beat them by 9 wickets. In the 8th Match Finals Vidarbha beat U.P. by 124 runs and won the Vijay Merchant Trophy.

Manish who was on this team that lifted the prestigious trophy received a cheque of One lakh fifty thousand and a gift voucher of Rs. 15000/-.

He received appreciation & accolades from Mrs. Shilpee Ganguly, Principal, CPS Katol Road, Vice Principals, Staff & Students and the Sports Dept. for proving his mettle in cricket.
